Tough News For Avalanche

Our hockey team here in Denver, the Colorado Avalanche, took some heavy hits as two of their top players took off in free agency trades to other teams. Adam Foote aimed a gun at my heart yesterday when he signed to play with the Columbus Blue Jackets, and Peter Forsberg pulled the trigger, slashed my throat and then ran me over with a tank when he signed today with the Philadelphia Flyers. The only thing that could've been worse is if Forsberg had gone to the red wings. Forsberg's been my favorite player since the Av's landed here 10 years ago, and it's going to hurt to see him playing in any jersey other than ours. I'm really glad we'll have hockey again this year, but how many more players is Colorado going to lose under the new collective bargaining agreement?

We picked up Pierre Turgeon, who's played great in the past but at 35 is about ready to hang up his skates. We retain the rights to Tanguay and Hejduk, and Sakic's and Blake are signed up, but it's going to be a really crappy year without Forsberg.

Hopefully Kariya stays healthy this year and Selanne has a better season. We all love Foresberg... the only good thing about his playing for another team is that he spends so much time hurt that hopefully he won't actually play against us. Maybe we can use the money to get someone who will stay healthy more... but you can never replace Foresberg.

And losing Foote is going to hurt our defence a lot as well. I can't believe that these players are leaving the teams they've been with their whole careers for a few million more dollars...
