nintendo for tight jeans

Nintendo announced yesterday at E3 that they're not ready to roll over and die. In confident language, they touted their new products without focusing too drastically on their next console, the revolution. Instead, Nintendo spent a lot of time talking about their new game boy, the Gameboy Micro (about the size of an iPod mini at half the weight) and their growing wifi network to provide free wireless online play to nintendo DS owners. With the gameboy micro, nintendo's taking the "hand held" system beyond the edge of reason and into the land of stupid - congratulations on making a system small enough to be comfortably played by a [strongbad] 2 years old boy. [/strongbad]
"No matter how tight your jeans, it’ll fit in your pocket."
Amazing.

Nintendo released information about upcoming Game Cube titles, including a new Zelda called "Twilight Princess" that looks pretty darn impressive, and features Link turning into a werewolf. They also stated that Square-Enix is developing a wifi Final Fantasy (I'm assuming for the DS), so it seems the FF series might truly make a strong break for independence from Sony (they released 1 game for the Game Cube last year, but it wasn't very successful.)

Nintendo did spend some time on the
Revolution, but their hype here again was less than impressive. The selling points for this system will be that it's the most developer friendly, that it's small (the size of about 3 DVD cases stacked together) and that it will emulate every nintendo system ever made. The first point does absolutely nothing for gamers. Is nintendo implying that, to save money on costs, big game developers aren't going to spend the money to develop for the XBox and Playstation? That's a dubious notion at best; or rather, "completely untenable, and manifestly not the case." The size is a nice feature, but not a huge selling point. Their last point is rather exciting. The Revolution, like all of the new consoles, will be an online-friendly platform (wireless, from what I hear), and every old nintendo game ever invented for their first 3 systems will be available for download, while game cube games will still play on the system. Backwards compatibility is a lot more impressive when the games you're supporting go back more than 15 years.

The system is currently said to be releasing
early 2006, around the same time as the PS3. I guess both Nintendo and Sony are content to let XBox360 be the first horse out of the gate this time around. I can't say it seems like a good business decision to me, but what do I know?

Good pictures, some bad info on Revolution

what is this? nerd blog?? hehehe. Just kidding. My sister sent me this really funny article about growing up on Christian Music. I thought of you. It was a so easy to relate to.

I would also like to add that never once in my life have I owned a video game system. Depressing, I know.

Nerd blog? Only if yours is "whiny girl who always has papers to write" blog. Stick THAT in your pitch pipe.

Want to send me a copy of that article? I didn't listen to much (read: any) non-Christian music until I was in highschool. My parents didn't prohibit it - they just never listened to anything else when I was in the car, so that's what I grew up on.

The nerd posts will die down once E3 is over...I'm just excited about all of the new video game stuff happening in the world these days. :)

I also grew up without any video game system, although we had a computer that would play some games. I got my first console in college from a certain Josh Gretz for like $100 and it came with a TV and like 15 games, so it was a pretty good deal.

I accept the blame for "whiny girl who always has papers to write" blog. You are quick on the comeback, my friend. Fortunately, for me, and apparently for you, I have no papers to write for nearly 3 whole months.

I will send you the article if you send me your address. It is a print copy. It is quite funny. Kudos to Josh Gretz for introducing you to the wonderful world of video games. My sister and her techy-nerd husband have tried to help me out, but dance-dance revolution is just not my style.

oh - a print copy, eh? Where from? How about this: if you think of it, bring it to Grant's wedding, and if you don't, then no big deal. I figured it was an easy-to-send email form.
