Elegance is a matter of priority

I was reading Belle in the Big Apple earlier today because it showed up on my dashboard. It's a well written blog that describes the life of a young (25) southern girl living in Manhattan. The majority of her posts wistfully and artistically recount the romantic events of her daily life. The style and elegance of her writing makes it feel interesting, like a novel. It made me wonder: why isn't my blog more like that? Why don't I just write about my life, and make it sound interesting? I thought I'd give it a shot:

I awoke this morning at 6 when my wife's alarm clock went off. I don't know why it did, because she usually doesn't set one - I'm the designated alarmer. But for some reason, today she'd set hers, and so my sweet slumber was stifled a full 15 minutes prior to it's scheduled departure.

"What's going on?" I asked, as I rolled over to see the dark grey morning light leaking in feebly through the wooden plantation blinds that decorate our windows.

"I have to go to court this morning," she replied. This isn't out of the ordinary - she goes to court several times each week. Today, however, court started earlier.

I flopped to the floor and began the stretching routine that had started nearly each day of my life since a lacrosse injury several years ago had caused inflamed muscles to pinch the sciatic nerve and cause so much pain I could barely walk. I closed my eyes and let my brain pretend it was still asleep while my abdominals continued the rhythmic contractions required to reduce the swelling and keep me moving around like a normal person for another day.

See, I could write about my entire day like that, but is it worth writing about? Maybe if I were telling exciting stories about dating men (women, in my case, I hope) around New York, I might feel like it was worth blogging about. But in my day-to-day, the exciting and funny things that happen are usually so mundane or context-sensitive that it wouldn't make sense, and my blog seems like a better place to discuss video game controller styles and whether or not ninjas can kill apes. I guess the real difference here is that our blogs reflect our lives and our priorities. Belle's priority is to find and marry a nice and exciting man amidst the hoard of pretentious boys that flood upper NY. Mine is to beat Ninja Gaiden in under 4 hours. See the difference?

I'm being facetious, of course. My real priority is to become a professional foosball player.

Now that's what I call REAL ULTIMATE POWER!!! Oh. I guess that was a post late.

What happened to the "real" red hurt machine drawing? What about that instead of "stormsurge"?
