nintendo revolution controller

It certainly is revolutionary - what sort of revolution is left to be determined by we-the-consumers. It's your basic "flip the controller over and attach a thumb stick to it" configuration. It connects to the revolution wirelessly, and the controller is 3d sensitive to provide what amounts to a 3d mouse. Cool, but so different it's kinda scary.

Am I playing video games, or adjusting my posturepedic bed?
(I stole this joke from engadget)

The problem with a controller that is very new is that only people who use the Revolution regularly will be able to use it at all. If your friends come over you can't just say "hey, lets play some Revolution" because they'll have to spend 3.687 hours learning how to use the controller. During that time you will kick their butts at every game you play. Then not only will the hate the Revolution, but they will also hate you and they will go home and leave you all alone, wishing you had bought a game system that had a usable controller.

It doesn't sound hard to use at all. The controls are all pretty nintendo standard - a thumb stick, d pad, A and B buttons. No big deal. That VCR looking remote stick has a trigger on it too, and since it's completely direction-sensative it'll be perfect for gun games. I think it looks a-pretty-good.

Being the first person to master the new controller is part of the appeal. If I'm the first person with the revolution I can invite redhurt over and finally beat him at nex-gen super smash brothers before he uses the new controller/wireless nunchucks to super smash my face out of frustration.

But seriously, but the first time I played Halo on Xbox I had no idea how to run around and look at the same time using two thumbsticks. Even though I got my ass kicked for the obligatory 3.687 hours, I still realized that the new system was way sweeter. I think the appeal of this controller will be determined by how revolutionary (pun intended) it actually is.

so, i just talked to my friend who is a lead on one of the dev deams at THQ and aside from the fact that they have all three of the next gen systems already (and have for about a year or so for game dev and testing) he said that the controller was actually very comfortable and easy to use. You should know also that this guy is a die-hard xbox fan so for him to actually not put down something produced by Nintendo® is a pretty big thing.

he also linked me to this.

yeah, it looks like it'd be really easy to use. The "point and shoot" is really going to change the way people play FPS. It'll be like playing an FPS while wielding the arcade style gun that you can point and shoot anywhere. Goodbye, right thumbstick. I never needed you anyway.

Thinking about playing FPS games with a gun type device makes me excited all over, including my pee pee.
