desktop two
Speaking of interesting web apps, I stumbled upon something really sweet this afternoon called DesktopTwo. The application operates within flash as a sort of online computer desktop, complete with all of the tools and programs you'd ever want. The company gives you 1 gb of online storage, and then makes the desktop useful by giving you a blog, email address, and im name, all tied in and integrated with your virtual desktop. I was surprised by how easy it was to set up - I got my blog, email and im in about 5 minutes. They also let you use the 1 gb of storage space to host a website. I didn't do that, but it'd be cool.I uploaded a few files and got the mp3 player running after about 10 minutes....the hardest part was figuring out how to get songs onto the playlist. Once I did, it worked perfectly.
So, all in all, this is one of the coolest things I've seen in a while. I don't have much use for it and probably won't be using it on a daily basis, but still, you gotta admit, it's pretty slick.
In other computer-esque news, the blogger formally known as Grey Drifter noticed today that Apple has released the specifications for their new desktop, known as the Mac Pro. The base version starts at $2,500 with pretty amazing specifications, but it can be ramped up to a $12k super-computer that rivals the processing power and storage capabilities of NASA and probably has all sorts of export restrictions. Pretty sweet.

I wonder if I actually thought it was spelled that way the other day?
