Death is a Force that Gives us Meaning

CharlesPeirce:
You around?

RedHurt:
yes. are you?

CharlesPeirce:
I suppose

RedHurt:
good.

CharlesPeirce:
Here's what Hans's doing:
“Finishing up my paper on a Thanatological Anthropology through Heidegger."
I kind of wish you were a little more thanatological...

RedHurt:
is that the theology of death or something?
google can't define it

CharlesPeirce:
I think so

RedHurt:
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/thanatological
science of death

CharlesPeirce:
Yep

RedHurt:
esp. psychological and social aspects
that sounds neat
I'm into death as a social/humanizing force
that's why I can't conceive of immortal human beings
it sounds in-human to live forever
death defines the human experience

CharlesPeirce:
I know you are
I am too
We need to talk about it more

RedHurt:
do we?

CharlesPeirce:
Not you and me
People in general

RedHurt:
oh, ok.
yes!
esp. Ayn Rand
that idiot.

CharlesPeirce:
I feel like people tool along not thinking about anything

RedHurt:
totally

CharlesPeirce:
And then all of the sudden they're dead

RedHurt:
we need more skulls on desks

CharlesPeirce:
I feel like people's lives are totally uninformed by death
ANd I can't understand it

RedHurt:
except in short bursts
when it totally shocks them

CharlesPeirce:
Right

RedHurt:
yeah

CharlesPeirce:
Then they go back to paying the bills

RedHurt:
and playing Wii
and paying Wii bills

CharlesPeirce:
Yep

RedHurt:
I bet you'll pay Wii bills in super-tax evader 3
when it's released later this year
it's by the same people who brought you CropDuster
and Granary Loader
and....um.......
pong.

CharlesPeirce:
Granary Loader was disappointing.
I had such high hopes for it.

RedHurt:
Your mom was disappointing.

37Signals does this thing where they publish im conversations they have speaking pretentiously about...everything...and people keep reading it, so I thought maybe it would work for us too. You can see that when our conversation wandered into something sort of important, I was temporarily distracted but quickly brought it back to the superficial with a well-placed mom joke.

You wouldn't say that if I were dead. Maybe you should think about that.

Then you have a lot more thinking to do than I do.

whoa whoa. Watch it there midge. That's a married guy you're talking about here. And yeah, he's right about Granary Loader. the controls were just unresponsive and clumsy. Many blessings on you and your family this holiday season.
